Addressing Unfinished Business in Congress

Working to End Taxation Without Representation in the Nation’s Capital
Dear Citizens:
In two weeks, Congress will return to work after a tumultuous election. Their focus will be on leadership elections and funding the government.
Our focus will be on getting Congress to pass the DC Voting Rights Act.
As we shared with you a few weeks ago, Judiciary Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner will mark-up the bill if Utah adopts a four seat congressional map that is non-controversial (i.e., one that protects Rep. Jim Matheson).
Utah is poised to do exactly that soon after November 7.
So, all eyes are on Utah. If the state adopts a fair plan, we will need to mount a vigorous advocacy campaign to get the House to vote on the bill and the Senate to take it up ASAP.
DC Vote and our coalition partners are preparing for the work ahead. We've talked to Republicans and Democrats on the Hill. We've prepared advocacy alerts and letters to Congress. We've talked to the media, generating interest and articles.
In 10 days, we will begin pouring our hearts out to make history -- securing the first-ever vote in Congress for Washingtonians.
Will you join us in that campaign? Will you get your friends and family around the country to help? Will you ask other organizations to take action?
Hopefully, the next time you receive an Insider message from us it will be showtime.
Sincerely,
Ilir Zherka
Executive Director
