v    Wednesday night, February 14th: A repeat performance by one of our most popular speakers, Dr. Adam Hedaya, addressing how diet, nutrition, supplements, vitamins, exercise, allergies, hormones, gastrointestinal quirks, etc., can all play a role in treating mental illness.  The goal is to reduce or eliminate the load of toxic psychotropic drugs that a patient has to take.  Anyone associated with the Beatniks gets a discounted initial consultation, as Dr. Adam kicks off his new practice!!  Also that night, a special Valentine’s Day promotion for the popular “No Longer Lonely” singles’ Internet dating service especially for consumers.  Anyone who signs up that night gets six months’ free service, when “No Longer Lonely” soon begins charging for its unique and upgraded service with a new Web site.

v    Wednesday night, February 28th: The Beatniks’ excellent friends, Heidi Coons from Threshold Services, and Mark Foraker from St. Luke’s House, discuss fundraising and promotional techniques for grass-roots non-profits.  Exec’s from struggling non-profits won’t want to miss this one!!

v    Wednesday night, March 14th: First-ever NIMH Night at the Beatniks (see flyer).  Dr. Carlos A. Zarate, MD, Chief of the Mood Disorders Research Unit and a clinical director, discusses “Bipolar Disorder: Current Knowledge & Future Directions.”  Dr. Daniel R. Weinberger, MD, Director of the Genes, Cognition & Psychosis Program, discusses “How do Genes Cause Mental Illness?”  In addition, recruiters from several NIMH clinical trials will be on hand to answer questions.  Expect national media to be present; come early for best seating.

v    Wednesday night, March 28th: Veteran psychiatrist Dr. Paul Chodoff—now in his nineyties--discusses “Fifty Years of Psychiatric Practice: an Overview.”  In over half a century of practice, he’s seen it all; and wants to pass on some of his observations.
