double latte dependencies. Sure, these things are all
in a day?s work for the average D.C. professional.
But while most Washingtonians can?t change such
realities, they can learn to manage their stress and
recognize the difference between normal stress and
something more serious, specifically an anxiety
disorder, at a special free event at Teaism at Penn
Quarter.

professionals, media and other interested parties.
WHEN: Thursday, November 16, 5:30 p.m.

DETAILS: In a recent nationwide study, 40
percent of employees said they experience persistent
and excessive stress or anxiety daily, and 24
percent reported taking prescription medication to manage
stress, nervousness and related disorders during the
past year. Among the ways Americans deal with this
stress are sleeping more, overeating, consuming more
caffeine, consuming more alcohol, smoking, engaging
in more frequent sexual activity and even using illicit
drugs.
Jerilyn Ross, president and CEO of the Anxiety Disorders
Association of America (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=w8op7zbab.0.nu8cpgbab.akhtbb44.15236&ts=S0212&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adaa.org%2F) (ADAA), director of
The Ross Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders in
Washington, D.C., and author of the book Triumph
Over Fear, will discuss healthier techniques for
managing everyday stress during this free Teaism
event. She'll also explain when persistent and
excessive stress or anxiety may be an indicator of an
anxiety disorder. Affecting approximately 40 million
American adults, anxiety disorders are serious
medical conditions that fill people's lives with
overwhelming anxiety, worry and fear. They are the
most common psychiatric illnesses in the U.S.
The event is part of National
Stress ut Week (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=w8op7zbab.0.n9kudzbab.akhtbb44.15236&ts=S0212&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adaa.org%2Fstressoutweek%2F) ? a
week created by the ADAA to increase awareness of
stress, anxiety and anxiety disorders. National
Stress ut Week is being celebrated this year during
the week of November 12-18.
